This trip is one of our most unique tours arranged in Amdo. This trip allows you to see how Tibetan families live in the farming regions. The villages that you are going to in stay are half-rural, half-nomadic where they grow wheat, barley, rapeseeds, potatoes, beans, and also raise herds of sheep, horses, cows, yaks and drils. You will help in their daily work in the fields, herding animals, cooking and making breads etc. and have plenty of time to observe and chat with the villagers.
Day 01: Xining-Kokonor Lake-Erthi Village, 220km, 4-5HRS.
Drive from Xining to Lake Kokonor (Chin: Qinghai Hu) via Shima Lhadun desert where a picnic lunch will be arranged. You will spend most of the time driving through large grasslands and rapeseed farms. At Shala Pass, you see nomads pasturing their animals on the grassland, and a marvelous panoramic view of Lake Kokonor meeting the crystal clear sky. Continue driving another hour to Erthi village. Over night with a family in the village.
Day 02: Erthi Village.
Your host family will prepare traditional Tibetan food for your breakfast. After breakfast you will participate the family’s seasonal works. In the evening cook with your family and enjoy your dinner together. If you are interested to know more about the area, the village elders will be pleased to chat with you. Over night at the same home.
Day 03: Village-Darkar County, 150km, 3HRS.
Have breakfast with your family, and bid them farewell, and get on the road to Darkar County (Chin: Xin Hai Xian) via gorgeous and expansive grasslands. Lunch in the county town and then drive another hour to Dralzong Monastery. The monastery, itself a hidden gem, means “white cliff of monkeys”. There is a 2-hour scenic hike around the monastery (the Kora for pilgrims), a gorgeous trail of rocks, deep valleys and thick pine trees. Please consult with your guide about the length of the Kora and whether it might be physically challenging for you. Over night in Darkar County.
Day 04: Darkar-Bhazong, 130km, 3HRS.
Drive to Bhazong (Chin: Tong De Xian) along the Yellow River. You will get a great panoramic view of the Baku Canyon before you reach Tong De. Over night in Ba Zong.
Day 05: Bhazng-Tsekog-, 120km, 3 HRS.
In the morning after breakfast, drive to Tsekog (Chin: Ze Ku Xian) along the nomadic grasslands.On the way you will visit Hor monstery and the famous Mani stone carving in the world. (Chin: Ze Ku Xian), Stay over night in Tsekog, you can either camp on the grassland near the Nomadic monastery or stay in a hotel.
Day 06: Tsekg-Sog Zong-, 67km, 1 half HRS.
After breakfast, drive to Sog Zong (Chin: He Nan Xian) along the nomadic grasslands and beautiful scenery, Sog Zong is a populated with Mongolian migrants from old. Stay over night in Sogzong camping with Nomadci on the grassland.
Day 07: Sogzong-Tsekog-Rebkong, 190km, 5 HRS.
Drive from Sogzong to Rebkong (Chin: Tong Ren Xian), famous in Tibet for its unique art traditions for centuries. You’ll visit Rongwu Gonchen Monastery, a mother monastery of 35 branch monasteries in the region, and regarded as one of the most intellectually vibrant Buddhist institutes. Stay over night with a family in Rebkong.
Day 08: Rebkong-Xining, 170km, 3 HRS.
En-route to Xining visit Sang Ge Shong monasteries (Chin: Wu Tun Si), where you will get chance to see some of the most well-known local thangka painters, they will show you their works and offer you tea in their cozy court yard. Arrive in Xining in the early evening. Tour ends
