Many tour agencies provide home-stays in Amdo, but few provide stays at a Yogi’s home. Further, few take their voyagers to Machu Grassland, home to the most famous Amdo cowboys. These rugged nomads have transformed themselves from horse riders to motorcycle experts. The sun has tanned their faces, but their teeth still shine a brilliant white. Their heads covered with scarves, and their bodies shrouded in Tibetan robes, they skillfully navigate the precarious surface of the Tibetan Plateau. These high-altitude daredevils reside very near to one of the most astonishing natural preserves in the whole of Amdo, the Nyanbo Yutse. This region contains a mountain that is the seat of one a powerful and awe-inspiring mountain deity!
Day1 Xining-Shaqon-Rebkhong (Home stay in Yogi’s village)
Today our nomad adventure in Amdo will begin, First we will go to Shakyong Monastery, one of four important monasteries in Northern Amdo. Also where the Gelupa tradition’s founder –The Great Tsongkapa studied here from 7 to 16 years old.H
Day2 Rebkhong-Labrang
On the first day, we will begin our nomadic adventure. But first, we will visit the regional center of Rebkhong City. We will explore the most beautiful monastery in Amdo, Sankheshon, known as the cradle of Tibetan artists. Rebkhong is famous for its Thangka artists. Thangkhas are finely detailed Buddhist religious paintings. Take one home for a souvenir! After that we will head to Labrang monastery, one of the six largest monasteries in Tibet. Labrang monastery houses nearly 2000 monks. This monastery is well known for its teaching tradition. Monks and lamas from all over Tibet have come to Labrang to study, including the Panchen Lama. This monastery is more than just a home for monks, it is in fact a philosophical center for Tibet. Astrology, medicine, architecture, poetry, linguistics, and many other topics are all taught here.
Day3 Labrang-Machu
Taday we will leave for Machu, but on the way, we will visit Milarepa tower in Tsu,and have lunch there, after we will head to Machu, home to the most famous Amdo cowboys. Day4 Machu-Chikdril
Today we will head to Chidril, now it’s part of Qianghai province, Stay at hotel in Chikdril!
Day5 Childril-Nyambo Yutse-Chikdril
Today we will visit Nyambo Yutse natural reserve, the beautiful lakes and majestic surrounding snow capped moutains with skirt of plants definitely can attract you!
Head back to Chikdril and stay at same hotel in Chikdril!
Day6 Chikdril-Dawo
Today we will head to Dawo, the capital city of Golok prefecture.
Day7 Dawo-Xining
We will drive along one of most beautiful roads in Qinghai. We will visit Ragya monastery on our way, then we will see Yellow River, magnificent red clay mountains, and sand dunes will make us to feel coming back again! We stay in Xining.
