Great summer festival in Amdo region is the best time in Tibet, grassland is green with crops and fruits coming into ripeness. The villagers offer these foods to the gods, and entreat them to bestow bountiful harvests in the future and spare the village and its livestock from disease, commonly call it Klu Rol festival, a celebration of Rebgong’s culture diversity, where we witness a village trance medium featuring numerous dances and rituals in honor of local mountain gods. We also will go to enjoy the captivating summer grassland and magnificent Buddhist monasteries in heartland of Amdo on this good journey
Day 1-3, Xining / Kokonor Lake / Drotsang
Xining lies at the northern east frontier of Tibet Plateau. Explore the culture heritage sites and natural wonders of Tsong Kha valley. Gonlung is one of the four great Buddhist monasteries lies in a minor side valley of the Tsong-chu River. The picturesque valley of Gonlung was visited by Third and Fourth Dalai Lama, and the monastery was founded latter in 1604, high-ranking Lamas from this monastery use to be the tutor of Chinese Emperor. Another monastery related to the Chinese emperor curt is Qutan Temple, built in 1492 at this historic Sino-Tibetan frontier, its layout and design is comparable to the imperial palace, featured Ming dynasty style architecture and art. We also pay homage to the birth place of Je Dzongkapa, Kumbum Monastery (Ch. Ta’er Si), where the Eminent Tsong-kha-pa was born in 1357, and it is an important monastery of Glug school of Tibetan Buddhism. Kokonor is an emerald blue lake, lies at refreshing height 3200 meters. It is the largest and one of the holiest lakes on the Tibetan plateau.
Day 4-8, Rebgong
Mountain god festival is a special celebration occurs nowhere else in Tibet. Villagers gather in the community shrine for the ceremony, put on their best traditional costumes and jewelries, beat the rectangular drum and dance in circle in the courtyard. Once the Lhawa is completely in trance the gods may speak through him and the participating males will pierce their mouth and pick with long metal needles. We will go to join the festival in couple villages, each of them have their own way of dance and rituals. Rebgong also is famous for the Tibetan traditional painting, we will visit Rongwu and Sanggeshung monastery, house masterpieces of local artistes.
Day 9-15, Sokpo / Taktsang Lhamo / Labrang
Most Tibetan nomads live on grassland of eastern Tibet, especially the pastures along the Yellow river and its tributaries are regarded the richest, the grasses are thick and pastureland unfolds. This epic journey brings you to the highland grassland of Tsekok and Sokpo, an extensive grassland at a comfortable altitude of about 3’700 meters, a remote corner only few tourists ventured, we will experience warm hospitality and share most flavorful milk tea or thick yogurt in their summer campsite. Taktsang Lhamo is a small town of Amdo region, bifurcated by the Sichuan and Gansu Province border with two monasteries, a delightful, quaint valley. A splendid day for refreshment in this secluded alpine terrain valley, trek up the headwater of White Dragon River and mountain slopes. Our last stop is Labrang monastery, the largest Buddhist university built 1706, we will visit the grandiose temples learn about Tibetan Buddhism and monastic life
