Homestay tours

Touring from place to place allows acquaintance with many different sights and sites; but it might feel like a mere scratching of the surface. To fill this gap, we also organize home-stays with Tibetan farming and nomadic families. Living in a Tibetan household for a few days ensures an experience of local life quite different from traveling from one tourist attraction to another.

After waking up in a local village, rather than in a hotel, the day will hold different surprises. It will have you taste the local diet, ranging from tsam-pa to home-baked bread with tea, to hearty noodle soups. It will have you meet real people as they go about their daily business: taking in the harvest, herding livestock, taking care of the kids, playing a game of basketball, or visiting the local gompa (monastery).

Besides observing life in the village or tent circle, and hanging out with the locals, the home-stays also provide a great base for small hikes. One might climb the hillsides to visit the local labtse (a shrine erected for local mountain deities), pay a visit to the hot-springs nearby, or even make a mini-pilgrimage to historic meditation caves in the area.

Depending on your affinity for either the cozy warmth of a farming village or the desolate beauty of the grassy plains inhabited by the nomads, you can pick whether you want adobe walls or yak hair felt keeping your bed warm at night. Get in touch, share your preferences with us, and we will organize an authentic local stay, quite unequaled by anything else you may have done before.
