This package is the best of Kham and Amdo overland tour. This overland tour route starts from Xining of Qinghai province. You will experience Tibetan traditional arts as it called Tibetan painting in Rebgong. More than that, nomad adventures await you from Labang, Taktsang Lhamo, Goglog Tibetan nomad home, Sertha monastery, Yarchen, Yinlu Lhatso, Yushu and Qinghai lake etc. These places what we mean valuable for Kham and Amdo overland tour.
Day 1: Xining
Today you arrive in Xining, the capital city of Qinghai Province. This city is mainly inhabited with Tibetan but also a home of Uigur, Kazak and Hui minorities. Transferred to your hotel in Xining.
Day 2: Xining – Repkong
Enjoy a buffet breakfast at your hotel. This morning you will drive 27km Ta’er Si, known as Kumbum Monastery in Tibetan. After visiting the famous monasetery, you will drive Repkong (Tongren).
Day 3: Repkong
You will enjoy the Repkong Shaman Festival held at different villages and monasteries nearby Tongren. The Shaman Festival takes places in Tibetan lunar June and is one of the most unique and secular celebration in the Repkong Area. People in the villages conduct important ceremony which honors the local mountain god and asks for the good health of the villagers and a good harvest season for the year. You will watch dancing, animal sacrifice, and body needles, and colorful costumes and old traditions during the festival.
Day 4: Repkong
Once arrive in Rebgong, we will visit two sister Senggeshong monasteries which are famous for Tibetan traditional arts across Tibet.
Day 5: Repkong – Labrang – Taktsang Lhamo
Once you arrive in Labrang, a monk will give you a tour of one of the most famous monasteries in Amdo. In the afternoon drive to Taktsang lhamo. an area which is inhabited by nomads, offers great hiking and horse back trekking
Day 6: Taktsang Lhamo – Jigdil – Padma
Drive along the rolling pastures and mountains to reach Jigdil, is a county in Golog Tibet Autonomous Prefecture in southeast Qinghai province. A famous holy mountain in Golog for the locals there is Nyenpo Yurtse, stands 5369m / 17,611 feet high and is an excellent for hiking. We will continuely drive to Padma.
Day 7: Padma – Sertha Larung Gar
Drive to Serta Larung Gar. This unique place is home to the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastic college in the world with over 20,000 monks and nuns. We will also explore Tibet’s sku-burial and local Tibetan places.
Day 8: Serta Larung Gar – Ganzi – Yarchen
Drive to Garze Monastery and then to Yarchen. Many monks and nuns came to Yarchen Gar when Larung Gar was demolished in 2001.
Day 9: Yarchen
A full day visit in and around Yarchen monastery.
Day 10: Yarchen – Pelyul – Dege
Drive to Yanrchen and Derge. Afternoon an easy trip to the hill opposite the town where we will have a great view. Overnight in Derge.
Day 11: Dege – Yinlun Lhatso – Sershul
Drive to Sershul. On the way visit to Yihun Lhatso “Lake of the soul, a magnificent view of the solid glacier of Trola Mountain. Sershul Monastery is the largest Gelugpa monastery in the Kham region and the largest Gelug monastery in Kham.
Day 12: Sershul – Jyekundo
Drive to Jyekundo. and visit Gyanak Mani and Nampar Nangzal temple.
Day 13: Jyekundo – Mado – Amnye Machen
Amnye Machen has long been considered a sacred mountain and a place of pilgrimage. In the past, up to 10,000 Tibetans would make the 120-mile circumambulation of the mountain each year. The first European explorers described it as one of the great geographical discoveries of the twentieth century.
Day 14: Amnye Machen- Qinghai Lake
Drive to Qinghai Lake. Visit the South shore of Lake.
Day 15: Depart Xining
Drive from Qinghai Lake to Xining and connect the train or flight to your next destination
